Homemade Ranch Dip Ingredients

Greek Yogurt

A healthier alternative to Sour Cream, Greek Yogurt is lower in fat and in calories, but is still tangy and has the same (slightly thicker) creamy texture. Moreover, it’s higher in protein which helps build muscles, and keeps us fuller longer. Plus, it’s lower in lactose, making it easier for some to digest.

According to Health Benefits Greek Yogurt, at WebMD.com, Greek yogurt has several health benefits. Here are a few:

  • High in Vitamin B12
  • Contains Potassium, helping counteract sodium, and maintaining blood pressure
  • Great source of Iodine, supporting healthy thyroid function and strong immunity

Use Greek Yogurt in salad dressings like this Creamy Tex-Mex Dressing, on top of tacos, in smoothies, and in dips like this one and Healthy Queso.

Lemon Juice

Fresh lemon and herbs are such a great combo. It’s amazing how a squeeze of fresh lemon can brighten up most dishes.

Let your dip marinate in the fridge for a few hours before enjoying. This allows the flavors to sink in.

Milk

A little bit of milk is needed to thin out the dip. You can use any type of non-flavored milk with a neutral taste. If you like a thicker dip, just omit the milk.

Seasoning

Manufacturers have made it super easy with their already made ranch seasoning. However, it contains anti-caking agents and maltodextrin. Try to limit the foods you eat that contain maltodextrin. This highly processed additive has a higher glycemic index than table sugar. Increasing your risk of Type 2 diabetes, according to WebMD’s article, What is Maltodextrin?

The article also states, in early stages of research, to have found maltodextrin may cause gut issues, as well.

Maltodextrin may reduce the number of good bacteria and increase the harmful bacteria.

No thanks. Make your own ranch seasoning with these simple ingredients:

  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Dill (dried)
  • Basil (dried)
  • Chives (dried)
  • Parsley (dried)
  • Salt & Pepper

Mix together a triple batch to have on hand in your cupboard for seasoning potatoes or chicken. Since the salt is heavier than the dried herbs, be sure to stir it up each time you use it, as the salt falls to the bottom.

If you are an herb grower, using fresh herbs in this recipe would be amazing! Multiply the amounts by 3 for fresh herbs. Since dried herbs are more concentrated, you don’t need as much.

How to Make Ranch Dip

Healthy Ranch Dip with Greek Yogurt is as easy as dumping in all the ingredients, and letting it chill in the fridge for a bit, so the flavors have time to get to know each other.

First, mix together your seasoning (you won’t use all of it). Next, mix together Greek yogurt, seasoning and a squeeze of lemon juice. Whisk together, stick it in the fridge. It’s ready at any point, just more flavorful after about 4 hours.

What to Dip

Ranch dip and potato chips go together like Mahomes and Kelce (Go Chiefs!). A few potato chips are okay but balance out those fried chips with fresh veggies. Here are a few delicious options:

  • Carrot Sticks
  • Broccoli
  • Potato Skins or Wedges (air fried)
  • Mini Bell Peppers, halved
  • Zucchini sticks
  • Cucumbers rounds
  • Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Mix-Ins

Variety is the spice of life. Eating healthy can be hard if you’re eating the same thing over and over again. Mix up your healthy staples to keep your food interesting. Here are a few options for this dip:

Spice it Up

Add some heat to your Ranch. There are so many possibilities for making it spicy:

  • Add Cayenne, Chili Powder, or Red Pepper Flake
  • Whisk in some Salsa, like 505 (get 10% off here)
  • Drop in your favorite Hot Sauce
  • Adobo Sauce from a can of Chipotle Peppers, for a smoky flavor

Flavor Bombs

Think of condiments that are full of flavor.

  • Pesto
  • Pepperoncinis (diced)
  • Olives (diced)
  • BBQ Sauce

Team Avocado

Avocados deserve their own category. They are mild in flavor, but a creamy delicious healthy fat. Mash one up and mix into the Ranch. Add in some tajin, cilantro, and fresh lime juice for a Tex-Mex Ranch.

Cheese

Cheese makes everything better. Mix in some crumbled Blue Cheese or Feta. These cheeses work best, as they are dense enough so the moisture from the Ranch doesn’t melt them away.
